Committee: Human Rights Commission 1Issue: Strengthening Reproductive Rights for WomenSubmitter: SwitzerlandRecalling the United Nations previous resolutions related to the advancement of reproductive rights including resolution Recalling further outcomes for all previous United Nations conferences, summits and conventions aiming to strengthen reproductive rights for women through economic, educational and social means,Acknowledging that the restriction of women’s reproductive rights is a form of discrimination as defined on the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), Alarmed by the fact that 125 million women give birth every year, but nearly 43 million women do not give birth in an adequate health facility, Encourages all member states to join and or support with active collaboration to determine the causes and solutions to the problems regarding reproductive rights, the international organisations including,but not limited to:The United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS)Provides access to HIV prevention, treatment and support to women all around the world who are exposed to the risk of the infectionsSpreads awareness, specifically in post-conflict states, about HIV health care and prevention methods Underneath each of these Subclauses, identify any specific actions they implement towards achieving certain goals related to your issue, so what do they do? The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)Provides means of obtaining accurate information about one’s reproductive healthEnsures a safe, effective and affordable means of accessing reproductive health care The International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF)Delivers sexual and reproductive health services, allowing women to make their own choicesThe Human Reproduction Research Programme (HRP)Conducts and initiates research programs regarding reproductive rights to make a progress in sexual/reproductive treatments;Calls upon all member states to prevent maternal deaths from unsafe, illegal abortion by ensuring:The cost of legal abortion is affordable for all women via the funding of the governmentThe cost of abortion pill is covered by health insurance;Requests Development and Research Training in Human Reproduction (HRP) to coordinate research on abortion to provide clinical information to patients seeking abortion information, clinics and national organisations advocating for safe and legal abortion;Urges all member states endorse reproductive and sexual education to provide awareness to the matter of contention for reproductive rights by: Implementing laws that state education regarding sexual and reproductive health and rights should be mandatory in grades 7 – 12Collaborating with organisations including the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to educate the population about their rights to access services to prevent, diagnose and treat STIs as well as counselling on family planning;Emphasises the need to eliminate sexual assault for all women, including those past consent ages by: Strengthening sexual assault laws with convictions that carry a sentence of at least 24 months in prison as well as a high fine Enforcing sexual assault laws by monitoring areas with high levels of assault monthly Collaborating with International Women’s Health Coalition (IWHC) to provide sexual and reproductive education to eliminate the stigma around being involved in sexual assaultsEnsuring audits are carried by UN Women to ensure progress is being made and crimes violating sexual and reproductive rights of women are being punished;
