TIPS & EXPERT ADVICE ON ESSAYS, PAPERS & COLLEGE APPLICATIONS

By looking at the studied articles “Lohan Behold” by ‘Sugar’ magazine featuring Lindsay Lohan and “I don’t need to take care of a man to be happy” by ‘Cosmopolitan’ featuring Jennifer Lopez. The main purpose of the two articles is to promote the celebrities lives by entertaining their audience. The title “Lohan behold”, automatically promotes Lohan, using the word “Behold”, it is like they are showing her off. The use of font is in a rough, somewhat untamed in a manner which reflects her personality.

The font cuts through the picture this suggests that this is a reflection of Lohan’s attitude, it seems she has no control of her life. this is shown by the way she is posing in the image, because she is new to the celebrity world, it seems that she’s cutting through the celebrity world as the title is cutting through the picture. The title “I don’t need a man to be happy” in Cosmopolitan has emphasized the words ‘take care’ and ‘man’ and ‘happy’. The title is bold and eye catching, this may suggest that they are trying to target the audience especially women that are married.

They may be in the same sort of situation as Jennifer. In both articles they are selling the celebrities in a positive light. Both articles have the titles big and bold but ‘Cosmopolitan has a much simpler layout/ font and enforces the increasing independency of Lopez. Looking at the photographic image of Lindsay Lohan from “Sugar” magazine and of Jennifer Lopez in “Cosmopolitan”, they are both the central focus of the articles as when the reader first turns to that page the first thing they will see is the picture.

Furthermore she is pleasing the audience by showing off her looks and figure i. e. , her hair is highlighted and has a lot of make up on. The portrait image of Lindsay has a portrait border; the importance of the picture is shown because only things like paintings are put with borders. The image is too casual and sexy for her age, and she has no expression gazing at the readers. I believe this because she looks like she is trying to seduce the audience. The serious expression on her face may suggest that there is an air of mystery around her.

The way that she is faced towards the reader and the positioning of the lights depicts the good features of her face, that it seems she wants to show herself in the best ay possible making her seem more attractive. The photograph has a soft focus when there is a soft focus the photographer wants you to focus on Lohan. Her make up is heavy around the eyes and her lips are open signifying a sign of seduction and sexiness. This proposes that the picture is forced and she looks desperate.

It reflects that her character is wild, desperate, out going and somewhat extreme. This is because you wouldn’t expect a teenager to please people too much. Her clothing is not very visible but unlike Jennifer’s clothing, we can see that it is hanging down, draping down her arm which may indicate that her attitude towards celebrity life is slipping (in a sense that she doesn’t care about what others think but does so much to please the public), i. e. the paparazzi and boys. Making her feel like she needs publicity and that’s why the picture looks so unnatural.
